Central Policy Unit Full-time Member appointed

The Government announced today (February 10) that Mr Lau Sai-leung had been appointed a Full-time Member of the Central Policy Unit. The term of appointment will be from today to June 30, 2007.

Mr Lau is a sociologist and an experienced commentator. He was the Consulting Chief Editor of Hong Kong Tom Group Limited, and holds a Master of Philosophy (Sociology) degree awarded by the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1991.

Mr Lau will assist the Head, Central Policy Unit, Professor Lau Siu-kai, in generating new policy ideas, conducting policy research, analysing social, political and economic conditions as well as establishing networks with stakeholders.

The Head, Central Policy Unit said he was extremely pleased with the wealth of media experience and background that Mr Lau would bring to the Unit.

Thematic Household Survey in the Fourth Quarter of 2004

The Survey was conducted to collect information about the Hong Kong residents having resided/stayed substantially in the Mainland (HKRM). Recently, the Census and Statistics Department has enhanced the method for compiling statistics on HKRM and presented the revised survey findings based on the enhanced method in a feature article (PDF).
